Steve Porterfield, Owner of Cats Meow in Midland and Ken Weber, Owner of Vintage Martini, Dallas assembled gowns from the 1850's to the 1940's emphasizing the crinoline through the bustle period of fashions (1850 - 1890's). The fashion show kicked off the Victorian Elegance Antique Show at 9am Saturday February 19, 2005.

Victorian Elegance Antique Show offers over 100 quality vendors from around the country with Victorian to Art Deco cherry and walnut furniture, quality linens and lace, handmade quilts, cut glass, china, silver, Civil War memorabilia, Victorian scrap, dolls, antique photos, books, vintage clothing and jewelry. Dealers brought a wide assortment of Christmas and holiday collectibles for this special show along with toys, games and paper products, original oil paintings, folk art, textiles, Christmas ornaments and the very best in Victorian winter fashions and accessories.

Cynthia Fendel of Dallas presented a workshop, "Novelty Hand Fans," on Sunday. She is a founding member of the "Fan Association of America" and a lifetime member of the Fan Museum of England, where some of her vintage fans are on display. Fendel displayed her collection of fans and gave tips on the care and preservation of fans.

Victorian Elegance Antique Show, founded in 1993 by Marilyn Mitchell, is the first show of its kind in the Southwest to focus strictly on the Victotrian era including workshops and entertainment for the whole family. Over 100 dealers from all over the country also specialize in: quality textiles, paintings, folk art, fine laces, linens, quilts, vintage clothing and hats, cut glass, china, silver, highly sought after Civil War collectibles, porcelain, rare Staffordshire, Limoge, and Majolica, Victorian scrap, antique jewelry, iron door stops, sports memorabilia and holiday collectibles.

Admission to "Victorian Elegance", is only $5.00 for both days, Saturday, September 20th and 21st, with extensive FREE parking. The show helps benefit Easter Seals of North Texas.



"Victorian Fashion Show Exceeds Expectation"


Marilyn Mitchell, the show owner, once again hosted another spectacular event on February 22-23, 2003. With the theme of "Victorian Extravaganza of Fashion", Steve Porterfield thrilled this year's attendees by a vast selection of spectacular outfits with accessories to match from evening bags to jewelry and fans. One lovely model donned a spectacular white ermine coat while another sported a striped green taffeta Civil War bustle dress with vintage lace shawl and straw hat. Anoterh was ready for an evening on the town in her 1880's gold satin ballgown trimmed in black jet beads, matching blace lace fan and evening stole. Also seen at the show was a 1890 green and white striped voile dress with matching French green velvet bonnet with white ostrich plumes.

Cynthia Fendel presented her workshop on "Fans of the Victorian Era", which featured 18th and 19th century fans of every description.

Other highlights of February's show included an English pine hutch filled with 1800's spatterware, stoneware and pewter; a Butternut Revolutionary War desk; a lovely French pedestal table with inlaid top. Everything from Victorian to Art Deco, quality linens and lace, quilts, cut glass, china, silver, Civil War memorabilia, Victorian scrap, antique photos, boons, buttons, and more was found at Victorian Elegance.
